Passing along the legacy of a family member through the naming of a child has long been a tradition within our culture. But with the birth of this little boy, the legacy of his grandfather, along with his grandfather's love for Gannon University are given new life.
Nicholas Gannon Beene, son of Eric and Maureen Collins Beene, was born on April 22, 2014. He was named after his late grandfather and Gannon alumni, Nick Collins'72. Collins, a member of Alpha Psi Delta, was an avid fan of Gannon basketball while he attended as an undergraduate, so much so that even after he graduated he would tune into men and women's games listening on his computer from Texas.
Because of his grandfather's love for the University, baby Nicholas was given the middle name of "Gannon" in addition to his grandfather's first name. The memory of Collins, intertwined with his own fond memories of Gannon University, will continue on through his grandson.
